Welcome, Suzanne!
This is Suzanne: Our new agent in France!
France – the land of fine wines, delicious cheeses, and a well-organized camping industry! Even before we became active in France, we noticed the potential this wonderful holiday destination holds for glamping. We wanted to act on that insight and brought in Suzanne Daas from BoLodge. She will help us offer the De Waard experience in France as well. So, let’s meet Suzanne!
Suzanne, how does someone from Brabant end up in the country of love?
Great question! Initially, it was the culture, language, and atmosphere that drew me in. During my hotel management studies, I intentionally chose internships in France, and I was offered a position at Holiday Inn in Paris. I found a small apartment in Montmartre and took my first steps into the French (hospitality) world.
Now, twenty years later, I’ve traveled and worked extensively between the Netherlands and France, for companies like Belvilla and ACSI. Along the way, I’ve come to understand the language, culture, and regional differences – including the inevitable language mistakes and misunderstandings. Through my network, I entered the glamping world and founded BoLodge, through which I now help others realize or develop their hospitality dreams in France.
Does France now feel like home?
Yes, absolutely. I have a great circle of friends and acquaintances here. In my free time, I enjoy the gastronomy, lifestyle, nature, and excellent environment for outdoor sports. My teenage daughter is now a true French girl, complete with a regional accent and a proud member of the local youth council. And me? I’m getting there and try to keep up, retaining my Dutch accent and hands-on mentality.
How do you view France as a glamping destination?
France is undoubtedly one of the most diverse and rapidly developing countries in terms of camping and glamping – often referred to here as hôtellerie de plein air. The potential is enormous, but the large supply means competition is equally fierce. Large chains are capitalizing well on the glamping trend, making it challenging for family businesses and smaller providers to stand out.
And that is precisely where the opportunities lie. In 2025, simply placing a row of safari tents and organizing a pizza night is no longer a guarantee for success. Differentiation, quality, comfort that exceeds the average campsite, attention to detail, and a strong presentation are crucial for success. By investing in original, high-quality accommodations and combining this with a unique identity, providers can stand out and achieve sustainable success – especially in France, still one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe.
In short: France offers great potential for glamping, but success requires originality, quality, and a clear market position. This calls for a targeted approach to service, marketing, offerings, and solid knowledge of regulations.
What exactly will you be doing?
Besides offering advice, I will introduce hospitality entrepreneurs in France to the luxury tents of De Waard and support them from A to Z with their projects. No stroopwafels or licorice as a first impression – you can now find those in every supermarket here – but instead, honest conversations and practical guidance to optimize a glamping project with high-quality accommodations.
Why this glamping adventure with De Waard?
To me, De Waard Glamping feels like the perfect travel companion for a successful glamping journey. Everything fits: we share a passion for the outdoors, camping, and respect for nature. And importantly: we appreciate quality and a touch of extra comfort – that camping chair can definitely make way for a cozy lounge sofa!
