Meet Thijs Jan, our new Agent for Austria
Who are you and what is your background?
“My name is Thijs Jan van den Berg, I am 55 years old and live in Zwolle, the Netherlands. I would describe myself as entrepreneurial and driven. After studying at the CALO in Zwolle and at Utrecht University, I developed myself as an entrepreneur in sports, real estate and leisure. I am still very active and enjoy cycling, skiing and playing golf.”
What is your experience with camping and glamping?
“I am very familiar with camping and glamping. For several years, I rented out fully equipped tents on the Dutch Wadden Islands. Our tents were located directly in the dunes by the sea. It was a beautiful product in a unique location – something that still excites me today.”
What will you be doing for De Waard?
“As Commercial Agent Austria, I will focus on exploring opportunities in the Austrian market. This includes visiting locations and speaking with entrepreneurs, tour operators and campsite owners. Many entrepreneurs are not yet fully familiar with glamping or have doubts about durability and quality. This is exactly where De Waard can make the difference with its high-quality products and tailor-made solutions.”
Why do you see opportunities in Austria?
“Austria is a stable country, centrally located in Europe, with stunning nature and strong touristic appeal. I see significant opportunities for high-quality glamping concepts there. The combination of nature, tourism and a growing demand for unique accommodation concepts makes this a market with great potential.”
